Hello – my name is Femi Ogunrinde, and I am running for Division 2 school trustee on the Regina Public School Board.
22 years ago, the city of Regina opened its arms to our young family.
My 3 daughters went through the Regina Public School system, and I appreciate the hard work and dedication of those who helped mould them into who they are today.
Education is close to my heart because it prepares our children and shapes our future.
I am putting my name forward to be a strong and accountable voice, and will bring strength to the position of trustee. I believe in connecting communities, managing change and planning growth.
I am committed to making informed, balanced decisions and giving firm direction.
I have a background in education, business management and economics.
I've been a university lecturer, high school teacher, and educational consultant.
I bring rich cultural diversity, and I’m trained in boardroom governance.
…and I’ve had first-hand experience raising children in the school system.
As school board trustee, I will focus on these four areas:

As school board trustee, I will focus on these four areas:
FIRST… Student achievement and well-being - students are a priority!
Regina students must be able to compete in a global market.
Resources must be invested in sound educational practices and school-based supports to ensure student success.
Regina’s classrooms boast many fantastic educators – dedicated, caring and skilled individuals.
We need to ensure we are retaining and attracting the very best teachers.
We need to provide them with what they need to meet the diverse needs and learning styles of our students.
Our students need strong, engaging programming.
We need to celebrate success in a variety of forms.
The research has been done: we know there are challenges, we know the demands are great, and we know that finances have been a struggle. But that’s not enough to know.
We also know that students are worth too much for us not to pursue the best, not to demand more, and not to be vocal in that pursuit.
I will be a strong voice for our children.

SECONDLY… I plan to get community input for collaborative decision-making.
We want informed decisions that best reflect the needs of our students, families and educators.
All parties play a role in the development of students – we need to listen to their input and put it into practice.
We need effective communication with all stakeholders so there is a singular vision and purpose.
You have a voice: I want to hear it.
We also need to be connected with agencies like early childhood development, our First Nations and Metis communities, and the Open Door Society to better understand the demographics we are working with, and how to best meet their needs.

THIRD… We must encourage innovation, creativity and shared learning experiences.
Society has changed and old strategies will not meet the new needs.
We must manage the changing face of education.
We cannot play catch-up while students fall through the cracks.

FINALLY… The strategic integration of new immigrants into our school system.
Regina is exploding with growth, and we must manage this wisely, providing the necessary resources for these students to make smooth transitions and have equitable opportunities.
I still remember the warm welcome Regina gave to my family.
We must keep this legacy of openness to new people and ideas.
Our new students, new families, and new classrooms need supports in place to communicate and integrate in a way that preserves dignity and encourages growth.
We are a city of rich cultural diversity.
We need to celebrate this, and see the strengths that everyone brings to the table.
I will be a strong voice on these issues.
I will promote integrity and good governance to minimize waste, while bringing real value for money spent on programs, facilities, educators and support staff.
We know that all of these issues are important.
What we need are people who are going to ask the right questions to ensure that the job is done right.
I am forward-thinking, and I want the best for our children and our future.
